On the Divine of Jesus Christ. Is Jesus Christ the Lord God Himself, or is He just a Human of flesh and blood? A few people have asked me the next questions: In the past and nowadays, there are many people who do not accept Jesus Christ as God Himself. They just say, He is a good prophet and not more than that! The Jehovah witnesses consider Him as something which can be described as a ,, kind of god, but He has lower level than the Lord God". The bishop Nestorius of Constantinople saw Jesus Christ as someone who was just a human consisted out of flesh and blood. This has been the reason that the Syrian Church of Antioch was split in the year 451 A.C. The Nestorian Church, the East-Syrian Church was then created. The present-day Nestorians, the East-Arameans of Mesopotamia, call themselves today "assyrians". In south-east of Turkey, in the neighbourhood of Hasanna, there was a very small group of Protestants who were converted by the Western Missionaries, probably a remnants of Nestorians. These Protestants were also known as,, Misha, Misha, Allaha, Allaha" (= Jesus, Jesus, God, God= Nestorian ideology), it means Jesus is just a human and He has nothing to do with the Lord God Himself. Basically, this is also the ideology of Jehovah Witnesses. In addition, you have a various sects and cult groups who consider Jesus Christ as a mixture of human and something of Divine. Anyway, there are today many people who have a different view regarding the Divine of Jesus Christ. The question is thus: What is Jesus Christ? Is He the Lord God Himself or not? Or is He just a human of flesh and blood? The point is, how can we find out if Jesus Christ God himself is? What do we have at our disposal to see what is the truth and what is the right? Apostle Paul says,, ,, All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching the truth, rebuking the error, correcting faults, and giving instruction for right living . (2 Timothy 3: 16). And in other place he says,, Put all things to the test: Keep what is good . " (1 Thessalonians 5:19). To find out whether Jesus Christ is God Himself, we will make a investigation through the Holy Book the Bible. Please take your Bible and go with me through the Holy Book the Bible. 1. Jesus has always said: My Father in the heaven Not My wiliness, but yours The Jehovah witnesses and other groups who deny de Divine of Jesus Christ often say,, Jesus has always said: My Father your wiliness . " They emphasis this by referring to, among others, the next verses in the Holy Book, namely:
The above mentioned quotations often used by the Jehovah Witnesses to "proof" that Jesus Christ impossible could be God Himself. For them it is clear that He is nothing but just a good human being. Yes, they do accept him as a kind of "god" but not as the Lord God Himself. Many of the poor educated people become victims of the Jehovah Witnesses, because they can provide a "perfect misleading" evidence based on the Holy Book the Bible! The Jehovah witnesses and others, who do not recognise the Divine of Jesus Christ, base their argumentation on suchlike quotations. Since Jesus Christ says "My Father.. " forms a direct proof for the Jehovah witnesses and others that He was once created, He was not always there. They use the previous quotations as a "proof" that Jesus Christ is not God Himself. However, this is a terrible mistake, which is made by the Jehovah witnesses and other groups who deny the Divine of our Lord Jesus Christ. On the other hand, if we study the previous quotations, then we may get the impression that those who reject the Divine of Jesus Christ are somehow "right". However, this is a "spiritual" optical illusion, like I shall show to you in a minute. All the above mentioned quotations are explained in Philippians 2:6-8 where we read,, ..Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross". The fact that our Lord Jesus Christ took upon Himself the form of a servant .. He humbled Himself and became obedient makes quite clear that before he became a Human being He has never been served as a servant and obedient. He was, before He became a Human Being of flesh and blood, God Himself. He has never been served as a Servant or Obedient in the heaven, before he took the body of flesh and blood. He has accepted the form of a servant and made Himself of no reputation as the Son of the Humans and not as the Son of God. But now we can ask the question: Why did He made Himself of no reputation and took upon Himself the form of a servant? What is the meaning of this? What is the Secret Truth behind this? Why had He to become in the likeness of the man? What was the reason for that? Dear reader, the answer on these questions forms the fundament of the Christian Faith! When our Father Adam and Mother Eve violated the commandment of the Lord God in the Garden of Eden, the Lord God promised, after the punishment of both of them, that He would save their Children, it means by Blood Shed of Jesus Christ. We read clearly in the Bible that nobody can observe the face of the Lord. In John 1:18 we read,, No one has seen God at any time" In 1 Timothy 6: 16 we read,, . who alone has immortality, dwelling in light which cannot be approached, whom no one of men have seen, nor can see; to whom be honor and power everlasting. Amen. In Exodus 33:17-23 we read,, And the LORD said to Moses, I will do this thing also that you have spoken. For you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name. And he said, I beseech You, let me see Your glory. And He said, I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before you. And I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will have mercy on whom I will have mercy. And He said, You cannot see My face. For there no man can see Me and live. And the LORD said, Behold! There is a place by Me, and you shall stand upon a rock. And it will be, while My glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. And I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back parts. But My face shall not be seen" In spite of the fact that nobody is able to see the Lord God, though the Lord wanted to save the mankind from the yoke of the Satan. And how did He do this? To do this, He became a human and came to this world in order to save the mankind out of the sins! In Hebrew 2:17-18,, Therefore in all things it behoved him to be made like His brothers, that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of His people. For in that He Himself has suffered, having been tempted, He is able to rescue those who have been tempted" This is the Secret of the "becoming Human" of Jesus Christ. He must be behoved in all things in order to be made like His Brothers. This means that our Lord Jesus Christ got the same properties as the humans, when he became a human being. He had to experience the many temptations which the humans in their life are exposed to in order to rescue the mankind from the sins. He had to know about their problems, their way of life in order to feel the pain and the distress of the men feel in entire life. It is very sad that the Jehovah Witness and others cannot see the Glorious Secret behind the Rescue of the mankind. It is very pity that they cannot understand that the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob became a human being in the body of Jesus Christ. The relationship between the Lord God and men's race was broken due to the disobedience of the men in the Garden of Eden. That is the very reason that the Lord God came to the mankind and accepted to be made like His brothers (=humans) and made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Himself the form of a servant The fact that Jesus Christ often says "My Father" clarifies two important things, namely: First Jesus Christ has restored the relation between the mankind and the Lord God. It means that everybody, who accepts Jesus Christ as His Saviour, shall become a Child of God. He then has the right to say to the Lord,, Father in the heaven" . Secondly, He is the Son of God, it means He is the Same as God. Jesus Christ has restored the relation between the mankind and the Lord God as the "the Son of Man" This was done by Him as a person of no reputation, as a servant and obedient and has in that way defeated the Satan for eternity. Regarding accepting the life as servant and obedient, we read in Hebrew 5:8 "But even though He was God's Son, He learnt through His sufferings to be obedient" Even though Jesus Christ was the Son of God, it means the Same as God, he learned and accepted the life of a slave. The fact that Jesus Christ first had toe learn to be obedient, means that before His "becoming as a human of flesh and blood" He never before had been living as obedient. He had to learn to be obedient, because He had never learnt this as the Son of God. He has before never been subjected to whomever. He was before "becoming as human" always the only Sovereign Ruler of everything. Obedience was not a part of His life as the Son of God! After He came to this world, He had to learn through His sufferings to be obedient in order to save me and to save you!
2. What does the Bible tells us about the Divine of Jesus Christ?? 2.1 The Word of God In John 1:1-2 we read,, Before the world was created, the Word already existed; He was with God, and He was the same as God. From the very beginning the Word was with God. Through Him God made all things; not one thing in all creation was made without Him. The Word was the source of Life, and this life brought light to the mandkind .. The Word was in the World, and though God made the World through Him, yet the world did not recognise Him. He came to His own country, but His own people did not receive Him. Some however, did receive Him and believed in Him; so He gave them the right to become His children. The Word became a human being and full of grace and truth, lived among us. We saw His glory, the Glory which He received as the Father's only Son"
To summarise the previous points: In the body of Jesus Christ, the God of Abraham, Isaak and Jacob showed Himself to the world. Jesus Christ who is the Son of God, it means the same as God Himself, has restored the relationship between the God the Father and the mankind by His Blood shed on the Mountain of Golgotha. This means that everybody, who accepts unconditionally Jesus Christ, becomes automatically a brother or sister of Jesus Christ and a Child of God the Father. The sad point is however that the Jehovah witnesses have changed the Holy Bible in such a way that it matches with their own ideology. Their Bible, The New World translation, they have for example exchanged in John 1-2 ,, the Word was God, or "the word is the same as God " with "the Word was a God " or "the Word is the same as a God" The question is of course what is the reason of adding this preposition before "God" ?. Well, this has a very misleading sense. I shall tell you why! In John 10:34-35 Jesus Christ argues with some Jews about some theological issues. In verse 34 we read,, In answer, Jesus said, Is there not a saying in your law, I said, You are gods? " In the Old Testament sometimes Judges are called "gods" (Exodus 21:6, 22:9 +28, 23:13). The eldest of people of Israel, these were very wise and capable people to Judge on the behalf of the Lord God,. For this reason they were called "gods" or "Judges". So, when the Jehovah Witnesses say that Jesus was a God, it means actually, He was just a human being! By doing this, they want to degraded the position of Jesus Christ to a just human being. Many people around the world become victim of such misleading! There is another interesting thing which want to mention up, namely: The many prophets begin their prophecy by saying,, the Word of God came to me" it means Jesus Christ came to me" (For example Jeremiah 1:4). In relation with this, the Apostle Peter says,, ,, All the Prophets spoke about Him (= Jesus ) .(Acts 10:43)
2.2 The birth of Jesus Christ The birth of Jesus Christ is, among others, prophesied by the prophet Isaiah. In Isaiah 9:6 we read,, For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. This quotation is remarkable, isn't it?
2. 3. Jesus Christ our God and Rescuer In the Holy Book the Bible you can find many places, which testify regarding the Divine of Jesus Christ.
From these quotations it becomes quite clear that Jesus Christ is God Himself! It was something very obvious to the apostles of the Lord. They knew that He was the Son of God, it means God Himself. During the presence of Jesus on the world, Jesus Christ many times got argued with the Jewish leaders. In John 5:18 we read,, For this cause the Jews had an even greater desire to put Jesus to death, because not only did he not keep the Sabbath but he said God was his Father, so making himself equal with God". The Jewish leaders understood perfectly the meaning of the "Son of God". They knew that it meant "equal with God", so it means God Himself. Basically, also Jesus Christ confirms His Divine. In John 10:30 we read,, I and My Father are one" In John 14:9 we read,, Whoever has seen Me, has seen the Father .. that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me? " He says very clearly,, Me and the Father are one". Those who do belief in Jesus Christ shall automatically belief in God the Father. And those who do belief in God the Father, shall also belief in God the Son, since both of them are one! The Holy Bible expresses it like this,, Who, then, is the liar? It is anyone who says that Jesus is not the Messiah. Such a person is the Enemy of Christ- he rejects both the Father and the Son. For whoever rejects the Son also rejects the Father; whoever accepts the Son has the Father also" (1 John 2:22-23)
Conclusion From the previous point, it is quite clear that Jesus Christ is God Himself! He is the God of Abraham Isaak and Jacob who became flesh and blood. He is the Almighty God, who has suffered to rescue me and to rescue you from the yoke of the Satan. It is ridiculous and shameless to deny the Divine of Jesus Christ. As for those who reject His Divine, they should be ashamed! In fact these are the anti-Christian people who attack the Majesty, the Holiness and Greatness of our Lord and God Jesus Christ! Dear reader, although from the previous points it became very clear that Jesus Christ is God Himself; maybe it is good to do some more research about this very important issue. 3. 1 The God of Israel We read in the Bible that nobody ever has seen the Lord God (1 Timothy 6: 16, John 1:18, Exodus 33:17-23). However, there is something strange, because we read,, Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the chiefs of Israel went up: And they saw the God of Israel" (Exodus 24:9-10) This remarkable, isn't it? Just, they saw the God of Israel! But how can this be explained? We read in the Bible that nobody can see the Lord God, but at the other hand we read here clearly that they saw the God of Israel. So, how can this "contradiction" be explained? Dear reader, here is again really something quite fascinating! The God of Israel is nobody but our Lord Jesus Christ in the Old Testament! Again He show Himself to the people Israel in a shape of human being. Since in the time of the Old Testament, Jesus Christ was not crucified yet, He often is called "The Angle of the Lord". If you read the Old Testament you will come across many times this term. Often with this Old Testamentical term is the not yet crucified Jesus Christ described. 3. 2 Abraham walked and talked many times with the God of Israel In Genesis 18:1-32 we read about three angles visiting Abraham. One of these angles is again our Lord Jesus Christ. He promises Abraham that he would have a child. Sara however is somehow sceptic about this promise and laughs. In verse 18:13-14 we read,, And the Lord said, Why was Sarah laughing and saying, Is it possible for me, being old, to give birth to a child? Is there any wonder which the Lord is not able to do? At the time I said, in the spring, I will come back to you, and Sarah will have a child" After the meal, as it was usual in that time, we read,, And the men went on from there in the direction of Sodom; and Abraham went with them on their way. And the Lord said, Am I to keep back from Abraham the knowledge of what I do; Seeing that Abraham will certainly become a great and strong nation, and his name will be used by all the nations of the earth as a blessing? For I have made him mine so that he may give orders to his children and those of his line after him, to keep the ways of the Lord, to do what is good and right: so that the Lord may do to Abraham as he has said. And the Lord said, Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is very great, and their sin is very evil, I will go down now, and see if their acts are as bad as they seem from the outcry which has come to me; and if they are not, I will see. And the men, turning from that place, went on to Sodom: but Abraham was still waiting before the Lord. And Abraham came near, and said, Will you let destruction come on the upright with the sinners?" (Verse 16-23) So, dear reader, Abraham was walking, talking and eating with the Lord God. He was walking, eating and talking with our Lord Jesus Christ, it means the Angle of the Lord in the Old Testament. This is really astonishing! Nobody can see the Lord! However, the Lord loves humanity so much that the He comes by His own person to the mankind as one of them. He takes a shape of a human in order to make it possible to talk, to eat and to walk with the humans.
3.3 The Syrian- Orthodox tradition - Barechmor There is a Syrian tradition on the creating of Adam and sounds like this,, When the Lord God created Adam, he sent the Angle Gabriel to all four corner of the world. When the Angle came back, he saw two persons, but he could not distinguish Adam from those two persons, because their appearances were exactly the same. Accidentally he greeted Adam and said to Him,, Barekh Mor". Adam replayed, directing to the Lord, and said "Alloho M'barekh" That is the reason when we meet a clergyman, we greet him by saying,, Barekh Mor". And his reply is then,, Alloho M'barekh" 4. Describing Jesus Christ and the Lord God If we take a look at the way the Lord God and Jesus Christ are described in the Bible, you will find out that they are described in exactly the same manner. A few examples will be given to clarify this. 4.1. Lord of Lords and King of kings In 1Timothy 6:15 the Lord God is described as,, . who is the eternal and only Ruler, King of kings, and Lord of lords" In Revelation 17:19 Jesus Christ is described as,, These will make war against the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, because he is the Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with him are named, marked out, and true" 4. 2. At the beginning and at the end, the first and the last. The Lord God
Jesus Christ
4.3. A heavy stone
4. 4 White as snow
Dear reader, I hope you do agree with me that studying the previous points, it becomes clear to everybody that the way the Lord God is described, in exactly the way our Lord Jesus Christ is described. The conclusion is very clear because our Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord God Himself!!!
The base of the Christian faith is rest on the Holy Trinity, to know: Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The Church fathers have summarised this in the Nicene Creed, which is every Sunday being sang in the Syrian Church (Abo Ahid). THE NICENE CREED (Abo Ahid) (Council of Nicea in 325CE)
From the Nicene Creed tree things become clear, namely: Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. However, it also very interesting to make an investigation through the Holy Book the Bible. 6.1 The plural form of God In the Holy Book the Bible the Lord God is many times described in plural form. A few examples will be given to clarify this.
Please pay attention to the fact that Lord God says,, We, Us, " It is important to pay attention to the original Hebrew text of the Old Testament. The Hebrew didn't pronounce the name of the Lord God, because His name was holy to them. For this reason they called the Lord God: Jahwe, or Jehova, it depends on the way of using of vowel. Jahweh was the singular form of the Lord God. However, there is also a plural form of the Lord God in the Old Testament, namely the Jewish word: Elohim= Gods= Plural. Now Genesis 1:26 can be read as,, Then Jahweh said,, And now Elohim will make human beings " Let we now examine Genesis 1:1-3 where we read,, In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light" In the Creation we see the plural form of God, namely: In the beginning God created (1), And the Spirit of God (3), And God said (2), Note here that when we read,, And God said, a action takes place , it means the Word of God, that is our Lord Jesus Christ as I have explained in section 2.1 "The Word of God". And that is exactly the reason that the Apostle Paul says,, that the universe was created by Gods Word .." (Hebrew 11:3). In relation with the previous the Apostle Paul says about Jesus Christ,, Who is the image of the unseen God coming into existence before all living things; For by him all things were made, in heaven and on earth, things seen and things unseen, authorities, lords, rulers, and powers; all things were made by him and for him; He is before all things, and in him all things have being. And he is the head of the body, the church: the starting point of all things, the first to come again from the dead; so that in all things he might have the chief place" (1 Colossians 1:15-18) From these examples becomes quite clear that the Lord God has a plural form, it means the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
6.2 More examples In 2 Corinthians 13:13 we read,, The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ (2), the Love of God (1), and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit (3) be with you all " As it is clear from here, the Apostle Paul applies the plural form of God arbitrary, namely: the Son, the Father and the Holy Spirit. In 1 John 5:7 we read,, For there are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one" In Section 2.1 we saw that the Word = Jesus Christ. So we see also here the plural form of God, namely: The Father (1), the Son (2= the Word), and the Holy Spirit (3). Please pay attention to the fact that at the end we read .. and these three are one In Ephesians 1:17 the apostle Paul says,, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ (2), the glorious Father (1), to give you the Spirit (3), who will make you wise and reveal God to you . " In 1 Peter 1:2 we read,, according to the purpose of God the Father (1) and were made holy people by His Spirit (3), to obey Jesus Christ (2) ." These examples speak for them selves! 6.3 Conclusion Dear reader, I hope you do agree with me that studying the previous points, we can make the next conclusion:
The human being is in principle not able to penetrate into the Secret of the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit. It is beyond any imagination and magnification. In the past many great men have tried to fathom this unfathomable Secret of the Trinity. None of them has ever succeeded to understand this Secret. Furthermore, this Secret cannot be understand with the logic of the Humans, it is beyond any logic and imagination. Neither the law of the physics nor the logic of Mathematics can understand this Mystery of the Holy Trinity. No dear reader No! This Secret can only be understood through the Holy Spirit. In relation with this, the Holy Apostle Paul says,, Yet I do proclaim a message of wisdom to those who are spiritually mature. But it is not the wisdom that belongs to this world or to the powers that rule this world- powers that are losing their power. The wisdom I proclaim is God's secret wisdom, which is hidden from mankind, but which He had already chosen for our glory even before the world was made. None of the rulers of this world knew this wisdom. If they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory (verse 6-8) . But it was to us that God made known His secret by means of His Spirit. The Spirit searches everything, even the hidden depths of God's purpose. It is only a person's own spirit within him that knows all about him; in the same way, only God's Spirit knows all about God. We have not received this world's spirit; instead, we have received the Spirit sent by God, so that we may know all that God has given us. So then, we do not speak in words taught by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual truths to those who have the Spirit. Whoever does not have the Spirit cannot receive the gifts that come from God's Spirit. Such a person really does not understand them; they are nonsense to him, because their value can be judged only on a spiritual basis. Whoever has the Spirit, however, is able to judge the value of everything, but no one is able to judge him" (verse 10-15) The wisdom of the humans is contrary to the wisdom of the Lord God. The wisdom of this world cannot penetrate into the Holy Trinity, because it is nonsense to it. It cannot understand the things of God, because the wisdom of this world judges the things coming from God on the standards of this world and not on the standards of the Lord God. Nobody can understand the Secret of the Holy Trinity with the standards of this world, unless one has the Holy Spirit Who taught the Words of the Spirit. The Wisdom of the Lord is nonsense to a person belonging to this world, because he judges this wisdom through the logic and the standards of this world, which is impossible to understand in this way! Apostle Paul was a great Apostle and a top professor of the Old Testament; he was a person who had awaked a boy from the death, he was a person through whom the Lord God performed amazing wonders. However, this Holy man says about the wisdom of the Lord God,, How great are God's riches! How deep are His wisdom and knowledge! Who can explain His decisions? Who can understand His ways?" (Romans 11:33) Dear reader, who is able to understand the Lord God? Who is able to penetrate into His secrets with the standards of this world? Who is so intelligent to fathom the Lord's decisions and wisdom? The relationship between the humans and the Lord is described by the apostle Paul as,, But who are you, my friend, to answer God back? A clay pot does not ask the man who made it, "Why did you make me like this?" After all, the man who makes the pots has the right to use the clay as he wishes (Romans 9:20-21) The Creator of everything is the Lord God. So, how can the creation try to understand the Lord God? Is that logical to you? Is the Creator not much higher than the creation? How can the creation try to fathom the Creator? How can the table ask the carpenter "How did you make me?" You see dear reader, this now the relation between the Lord God and humans! James, the brother of the Lord says,, Submit to God and accept the Word that He plants in your hearts, which is able to save" (James 1:21)This is my task, your task and the task of everybody who want to obey the Lord God! Just accept the Word of God, the Holy Book the Bible, unconditionally!
