The recovery of general Naaman the Aramean, the officer of the Aramean army of Damascus (2 Kings 5:1-19)
----------------------Explanation of sentence by sentence------------------ ….. Naaman, the commander of the army, was highly respected and esteemed by the king of Aram, because through Naaman the Lord had given victory to Aramean forces…. Studying this quotation, the attention is immediately attracted by the fact that the Lord had given Aram victory through Naaman. The question is of course why? What was the reason for this? Why did the Lord give Aram a victory through Naaman? The victory, which we talk about here, is the victory over Israel. Studying the Old Testament, then it becomes quite clear that the people of Israel many times became unfaithful towards the Lord God. And the reaction of the Lord on their behaviour was that He many times gave them in the power of the other nations so that they defeated them. The Lord used the other nations as a "club" to rebuke the people of Israel for their unfaithfulness. However, there is something else, which we can say about this event. Taking a look at the Holy Book the Bible, then we regularly see that the Arameans - in spite of the fact they had their own gods (it means they were heathens) – in one or another way, when it came to the point, had respect for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. This behaviour we also observe when the servant of Abraham went to Paddan-Aram to get Rebecca, the daughter of Betuel the Aramean, for Isaac the son of his master Abraham. The attitude of Betuel and Laban the Arameans regarding this issue is,, Since this matter comes from the Lord, it is not for us to make a decision. Here is Rebecca; take her and go. Let her become the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord Himself had said" (Genesis 24:50-51). Please pay attention to this! Again we see the unconditionally respect of the Arameans Laban and Betuel for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The fact that the Lord had given Aram a victory through Naaman hints the possibility that Naaman probably knew the Lord God, although this is not explicitly mentioned. If this is the case, then we can say that beside the Jewish people (the people of the Lord) also the individuals from the gentile nations had in one or another way a relationship with the Lord God (at least, they knew Him). We could think about Job of course and Abimelech?, the king of Philistines (Genesis 20:3-18) or also about Benhadad?, the king of Aram (2 Kinhs 8:8-10). From this we get some indication about God’s plan with the gentile world. It implies that the Lord God, beside His plans with the people of Israel, had also a plan with the gentile world. To say this more accurate: the fact that in the Old Testament also individuals from the gentile world had a relationship with the Lord God, forms a indication to the time of the New Testament and the forming of the Church of Jesus Christ out of the gentile world (Romans 9, 10, 11). Therefore we can say that the Lord God is the God of everybody who obey Him, it is not only the God of Israel, but also the God of not-Jewish people, that means the gentiles. Nevertheless, the people of Israel have special place by the Lord. He has chosen them from the whole nations and so they became His people and even today they are His people! That is exactly the reason that a Christian should never have hostile feelings towards the people of Israel. As we have seen before, Naaman was the commander of the Aramean army ( of Damascus) and he was highly respected and esteemed. The human nature is then, that the feelings of self-pride will be amplified, if everybody respects you and has esteem for you. Undoubtedly, general Naaman was a person who was very proud of himself, which is certainly in agreement with the nature of the human. We could say that Naaman was a top general of the Aramean army of Damascus who gave the Arameans a great consideration through his excellent qualities. Yes, a perfect strategist for the king of Aram. …… He was a great soldier, but he suffered from a dreaded skin-disease……… However, general Naaman, a top commander of the Aramean army of Damascus had a big problem! He had namely a disease, which can be described as leprosy. This was a blemish for the status and the high position of Naaman, since such a disease in general became visible for everybody. How could such a top general show himself in the public with such terrible disease? You can imagine that this was very difficult for Naaman. Naaman himself could not solve this problem, so he had need for external help. ….. In one of their raids against Israel, the Arameans, had carried off a little Israelite girl, who became a servant of Naaman’s wife. One day she said to her mistress, : I wish that my master could go to the prophet who lives in Samaria! He would cure him of his disease."….. The relation between Israel and the Arameans was always something like hate –love relationship. When Israel became unfaithful towards the Lord God, the Lord used the Arameans to rebuke Israel for their terrible behaviour. If the people of Israel paid repent for their unfaithfulness, the Lord gave them peace with their neighbours and of course including the Arameans. As we have read, the Arameans had taken a girl from Israel to Aram in one of their raids against Israel. This little girl became a servant in the house of general Naaman. Since the girl was living at the residence of Naaman, she was good informed about the situation in the house of Naaman and she knew about his leprosy. This girl plays a very important role in the whole process because she was responsible to set things going as we have read before, namely,, I wish that my master could go to the prophet who lives in Samaria! He would cure him of his disease.. The girl made the woman of Naaman very curious about the prophet in Samaria. Yes dear reader, only the Prophet in Samaria, the ambassador of the Lord, could cure Naaman of his disease. The woman of Naaman informs her husband about this prophet and Naaman, who was looking for every possibility to be cured, went with the story to his king, the king of Aram. The king answers him with,, Go to the king of Israel and take this letter to him…
The journey to Israel…. …… So Naaman set out, taking thirty thousand pieces of silver, six thousand pieces of gold, ten changes of fine clothes. The letter that he took read: "This letter will introduce you my officer Naaman. I want you to cure him of his disease…… Thus the problem is solved at high political level, from king to king, in very clear and in no uncertain terms. The king of Aram requests the king of Israel to help his officer Naaman. Naaman goes to Israel, with him a great gift. The price of the gift can be estimated about 5 or 6 million dollars. For the matter of comparison, with so amount of money 3 huge churches could be build. The worth of the gift makes the love of the king of Aram quite clear for his commander Naaman. By sending such a gift, the king of Aram wanted to be convinced for the help from the king of Israel for his commander Naaman. He probably was prepared to pay everything. It is possible that the king of Aram gave the whole content of the public purse as a gift for the Prophet. The question is of course: Why such an expensive gift? Yes, not only because the king of Aram loved so much his officer Naaman, so there must be another reason to bring with you such a expensive present. There are some people who say, with a negative view, that Naaman was intended to buy the cure for his disease. Certainly, we can imagine this aspect of the case, but there is another possibility for bringing such an expensive gift en that has to do with having respect for your host. Dear reader, when you visit an important person or friend with a high status, then it is obvious that you would bring a gift with you which is in agreement with the highly status of the involved person. We would feel ashamed when we bring a bunch of flowers of, let we say 2 dollars. In the contrary, you want to express your respect for the status of the involved person, and so you bring with you an expensive gift of, for example 50, or maybe 100 dollars! The king of Aram was certainly not dependent on- or afraid for -the king of Israel, because they had defeated the king of Israel through Naaman. That means that from that point of view it was certainly not necessary to bring such an expensive gift with him. By bringing such a gift with him, Naaman wanted to express his respect for the Prophet Elisha, the servand of the Lord, and indirectly for the Lord God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. From the previous it is evident that the story of the Israelite girl was taken very seriously. It is possible that the Arameans knew about the wonders which were done by the prophet Elisha. Since Naaman was a very famous and highly respected person, it is obvious that highly persons accompanied him during his journey to Israel. According to the culture of the Middle East it is usual when a person of highly status visits another country, he takes with him also other dignitary and persons with high status. It is obvious that this also was the case with the journey of general Naaman. Naaman probably was accompanied by his officers and other highly persons of the government of the king of Aram. We can imagine that the pageant, which accompanied Naaman to Israel, was a large pageant of horses and chariots . It is of course also obvious that Naaman was very good in state dressed, since it was very important visit for him. The letter which Naaman took with him from his king to the king of Israel read,, "This letter will introduce you my officer Naaman. I want you to cure him of his disease" The letter is directly addressed to the king of Israel and not to the prophet Elisha. The reason for this is of course, that the prophet Elisha was officially a subject of the king of Israel. After reading the letter of the king of Aram, the king of Israel was shocked as we have just read, namely ,, When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes in dismay and exclaimed, "How can the king of Aram expect me to cure this man? Does he think that I am God, with the power of life and death. It’s plan that he is trying to start a quarrel with me! " It was something unbelievable that the king of Aram would wrote a letter to the king of Israel in such humble way, because the king of Aram is almost begging the king of Israel to take care for his officer. Aram and Israel were sworn enemies! And that explains why the letter of the king of Aram is above his imagination. It is so strange to him that the king of Israel says,, The king Aram is looking for a manner to start a war with me" On the other hand, the reaction of the king of Israel can be understood when we take in consideration the fact that they have had many wars in the past (see among other : 1 King 11:23-35; 20:1-34; 2 Samuel 10:1-19). However, sometimes the both nations also signed peace treaties (see for example 1 King 10:29; 20:34). Dear reader please pay attention to the fact that the king of Israel says,, Does he think that I am God, with the power of life and death…Yes, only the Lord God has the power of life and death. He only can cure the disease of general Naaman the Aramean. However, the letter of the king of Aram made a big commination at the residence of the king of Israel.
Naaman goes to the prophet Elisha… When the prophet Elisha was informed about the event at the residence of the king of Israel, he send him a message saying,, "Why are you so upset? Send the man to me, and I’ll show him that there is a prophet in Israel! In contrast with the king of Israel, the prophet Elisha probably knew about the reason of the coming of Naaman to Israel. In spite of the fact that Naaman had defeated Israel, he would now understand that only a prophet of Israel could cure his disease. The man who had defeated Israel, due to their unfaithfulness, will now be cured by the same Israel. This should be made clear to general Naaman the Aramean. No matter how strong or how smart you are, at the end you depend on the Lord God, because only the Lord God has the authority of the life and the death. He can destroy and He can cure you! General Naaman was a perfect strategist, but he knew probably until then, nothing about the way the Lord God works. Although, he had defeated Israel, he now would understand that he will be cured by the same Israel and that is the meaning of the words of Elisha when he says,, … and I’ll show him that there is a prophet in Israel! …..So Naaman went with his horses and chariot, and stopped at the entrance to Elisha’s house Naaman is going to the prophet Elisha, with his horses and chariot including the people who did accompany him from Damascus. Taking a look at the Holy Book the Bible, horses form a metaphor for highly status, showing strength (Ester 6:9-11; Ezekiel 23:6), power (Job 39:32; Psalms 147:10), showing dominance, aggression and wage a war (Isaiah 43:17; Jeremiah 8:6; Revelation 6:1-8). When our Lord Jesus Christ entered Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1-11), He rode on a foal. In contrast with a horse, a foal shows no aggression or suspicion for waging a war or warlike or whatsoever. A foal radiates more peace, innocence and calmness. Naaman is sitting inside the chariot with horses and does not come out of the chariot. He does expect that the prophet Elisha will come out of his house to say "welcome" to Naaman with preparation of a big party and nice ceremony. He thought that he would be received with pomp and circumstance by the prophet Elisha, that is what the human nature desires. Unfortunately, the prophet Elisha had disappointed him, because he even did not came out of his house to receive Naaman. No, nothing of that! In stead of welcoming Naaman by means of party and pomp and circumstance, Elisha sent a servant to out to tell him to go and wash himself seven times in the River Jordan, and he would be completely cured of his disease…. You can imagine that Naaman felt very insulted by the way the prophet Elisha had treated him, certainly if we take in consideration that this man was a top general and highly respected by his people and king. But dear reader, here we see the contradiction between the way the Lord God works and the way of human being. These are two total different ways!! We, humans, wants always set things to our hands. General Naaman would like to be cured, but only on his condition, without insulting his dignity as top military! But dear reader, general Naaman had not yet learned the true God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob to be cured of his disease. In the same way there today many persons world-wide considering themselves Christians, but in reality they do not know the real God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. General Naaman shows his displeasure regarding the way the prophet Elisha had received him as we can read,, But Naaman left in a rage, saying, "I thought that he would at least come out to me, pray the Lord his God, wave his hand over the diseased spot, and cure me! Besides, aren’t the rivers Abana and Pharpar, back in Damascus, better than any river in Israel? I could have washed in them and been cured!" Yes indeed, Naaman felt very insulted and hurt. He had expected something quite different than the way the prophet Elisha treated him. Maybe he had made in his thought, before his arrival at the house of Elisha, the complete ceremony which he wanted, should to take place. Unfortunately, the reality would be something quite different than his expectation! His reaction revels something about the pride of Naaman! Actually he wanted to say,, We have much more better water streams, why should I have to wash me in the (dirty, muddy) River of Jordan? " In other words, why should I as top general, be humiliated in this way? Yes dear reader yes! We have here to do with pride and honour, which is the way of the human, want to approach their goal, which is certainly not the way through which the Lord God works! He came to Elisha as a man who had feeling of honour, a man of high status, a man with his horses and chariot, a man who was respected and honoured by his people and his king. The insult and humiliation was too much for him! He could not bear this disgrace and dishonour, since the prophet Elisha even didn’t came out of his house to welcome him! As a climax of insult, the prophet Elsiha even dare to say to him to go to the River of Jordan and to wash himself seven times. His reaction is very embittered when he says,, Besides, aren’t the rivers Abana and Pharpar, back in Damascus, better than any river in Israel? Dear reader, here we have to do with the pride of the humans, which is only interested in his name, in his honour and in his interests. General Naaman should first have to learn how to obey the Lord God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And this costs in general a lot of effort pain and distress. One person in the history of the mankind knew very much about pain and distress and this person is the prophet Job. He says about pain,, But God teaches men through suffering and uses distress to open their eyes" (Job 36:15). And Naaman first will learn the way the Lord God works with the humans. Only according His wiliness and His plans, the humans can be cured! But after the suffering, the humiliation and distress is ended, the humans get the blessedness of the Lord. And the blessedness is much greater than the distress (2 Corinthians 7:8-12). Before a human can become a Child of the Lord God, first his pride and arrogance will be broken down. The Lord God cannot work with proud and arrogant people, since the prophet David says,, God makes men fear for Him; He humbles proud princes and terrifies kings" (Psalms 76:12, see also Isaiah 13:11).
It is possible that Naaman in his entire life never had been suffered so much as during his journey to Israel. But dear reader, to be cured by the Lord God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, one should first give up his pride and stubbornness. Otherwise, you can forget it! …. His servants went up to him and said, "Father (Sir), if the prophet had told you to do something difficult, you would have done it. Now why can’t you just wash yourself, as he said, and be cured?" General Naaman was so insulted, that he decided to go home, because he says,, I could have washed in them (=rivers Abana and Pharpar) and been cured!. However, his servants try to change his mind to wash him seven times in the River of Jordan. They speak to him as,, Father ….. This implies that general Naaman indeed was very loved by his people because they speak to him with Father… Since his servants love him very much, they try to convince him to wash himself in the River the Jordan. And so he did listen to his servants! …. So Naaman went down to the Jordan, dipped himself in it seven times, as Elisha had instructed, and he was completely cured. His flesh became firm and healthy, like that of a child…. With a bad grace, grumble and complain general Naaman decides to go to the River the Jordan. He has to dip himself seven times in the Jordan, as if dipping himself one time was not worse enough! Anyway, it was for this top general of the Aramean army of Damascus quite difficult to dip himself in the muddy and sticky Jordan. Dear reader, suppose you are a very famous and well respected person, in this case a general of a army, and you are almost suppressed to dip yourself in a very muddy river in the presence of other people! What kind of feeling you would then have? First you have to undress yourself, this means that you are naked in the presence of your servants. If we take in consideration the culture and usage’s of the middle east, then it will be not difficult anymore to understand that this scene was extremely difficult for Naaman to do! To humiliate yourself in this way, one must be a very courage person! Believe me it is certainly not easy! But, what is the result of humiliating yourself in this way for the Lord God? What is the result of crying for the Lord? Well dear reader, the result for general has been His flesh became firm and healthy, like that of a child…. That is the result of humiliating yourself for the Lord God! Belief me, the Lord shall never, never and again never forget that. The Lord God demands His children the unconditionally obedience without any doubt or reverse. The Lord wants to clean His children from top to bottom! If we are prepared to give up our pride, then the Lord will give us much more than that! The Lord God cannot work with people who are self-assured, proud and swollen. To get closer to the Lord God, one should first give up everything he had and put that under the supervision of Jesus Christ. Only then the Lord shall cure our body and spirit. You see, when our Lord Jesus Christ was on this world, He always served the people and with that He gave you and me an example to walk exactly the same way unconditionally. That is the true Christian!
Why seven times? We have seen in the previous that general Naaman had to dip himself seven times in the River the Jordan. We can now ask the question: Why seven times? Why not two, four or tree times? What is the meaning of to dip seven times in the River the Jordan? If we examine the Holy Book the Bible, then we will discover that number seven is very well-known number in the Bible. A few examples will be given to clarify this:
(See more for seven: Revelation: 3:1, 5:1-2, 5:5, 6:1, 8:2+6, 10:3+4 etceteras… ) The number seven is a Divine number, it represents perfection, 100%, faultlessness, entirety and completeness. The number of a human is six. The number of the antichrist is 666 (Revelation 13:18) and thus this is a number of humans. To be cured for 100%, that means totally, Naaman had to dip himself seven times in agreement with the wiliness of the Lord God. Naaman had to dip completely, so that nothing would be left of the old Naaman. The old Naaman was disappeared by dipping seven times and new Naaman came out of the water and perfectly cleaned. Naaman had become a complete new human by dipping himself seven times. We could say that Naaman was new-born (John 3:2-4). Naaman returns to the prophet Elisha…… He returned to Elisha with all his men and said, "Now I know that there is no god but the God of Israel…. Yes dear reader yes! Please stand a little while still and pay attention to this sentence! There is no god, but only the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God Israel. The God of Israel is very patient with His children and loves them very, very much! He did also love general Naaman the Aramean, but general Naaman had first to humiliate himself for the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob before he became a true Christian and the true Child of God. There is also a big contrast with the first time when Naaman went to the prophet Elisha. He then even did not get off of his horse, no, in the contrary. Because he was so pride and swollen he thought that the prophet Elisha would welcome him with great party and music! But after his conversion, he goes personally, in very friendly manner, (probably walking) to the prophet Elisah. Here we see the converted Naaman the Aramean whom eyes are opened by the Holy Spirit. He now has learned the true God. He knows how to behave gently towards the prophet Elisha. Before his conversion, Naaman was a very respected and esteemed person by the world, while he was very pride and swollen by the Lord God. After he had humiliated himself before the Lord God, he became a Child of the Lord God. That is exactly the reason why our Lord Jesus Christ says,, Whoever makes himself great will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be made great" (Matthew 23:12). And in James 4:6 we read,, God resists the proud, but gives graces to humble" Yes indeed, Naaman was at the beginning very proud and made himself very great. But in this situation the Lord could not cure him. Therefore he could only be cured on the conditions of the Lord God and not according the conditions of Naaman. So, Naaman had to change himself completely. That is exactly the reason that the apostle Paul says,, Your hearts and minds must be made completely new, and you must put on the new self, which is created in God’s likeness and reveals itself in the true life that is upright and holy "(Ephesians 4:23) Naaman, now had learned the true God. He wanted to do something to express his thankfulness and happiness. He would like to thank the Lord God Who had cured him and therefore he offered the Prophet Elisha, the ambassador of the Lord God, a gift. … so please, sir, accept a gift from me. " Elisha answered, "By the living Lord, whom I serve, I swear that I will not accept a gift. Naaman insisted that he accept it, but he would not… If you are cured of such terrible disease as leprosy, then of course you want to do something for that. You then are so happy, so emotional and so enthusiastic that you would be very pleased to do something in order to express your happiness and thankfulness. At the beginning of this essay we saw that Naaman had brought with him a very expensive gift and this makes clear that he was in earnest. He was very seriously about the goal of his journey and so he probably has done everything for it!
I will not accept a gift That is the answer of the prophet Elisah to Naaman. How attractive the gift of Naaman might be, Elisha would not accept the gift. To express this, he says on a very unambiguous way,, By the living Lord…. I will not accept a gift" This is very clear language without a shadow of a doubt! But now the question is of course, why did the prophet Elisha not accept the gift? Well dear reader, this is the base of the Christian faith! We must understand that the Grace of the Lord is free of charge, it costs nothing. And this Christian principle Naaman had to learn. You cannot buy or earn the Grace of the Lord God, the blessing comes always from the Lord God! It is only the Grace of the Lord that He forgives and cures us! That is exactly the reason that we have to learn in our life, that we cannot do a thing by ourselves, but everything we get in our live is because of the Grace of the Lord. In connection with this our Lord Jesus Christ says,, You have received without paying, so give without being paid" (Matthew 10:8). A great servant of the Lord God as the prophet Elisha would undoubtedly have understood the meaning of the Grace of the Lord very well! At the other hand, the reliability of the servant of the Lord God should be beyond all doubt! Serving the Lord God, doesn’t mean to (miss)use that as a manner to get rich (1 Timothy 6:4-5). A new life for general Naaman the Aramean… Naaman would at all costs want to do something in order to serve the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He wanted in the future to lead a life in contact with the God of Israel. ….So Naaman said, "If you won’t accept my gift, then let me have two mule-loads of earth to take home with me, because from now on I will not offer sacrifices or burn-offerings to any god except the Lord…..
Naaman probably has with the earth, he took from Israel, made an altar for the God of Israel to worship and serve Him and bring sacrifices!!!
Conclusion I belief that the conversion and the healing of general Naaman can serve as an example to all of us! We can learn something from this! We can learn how to get closer to the Lord in order to lead a life in agreement with His wiliness and commands and to become holy persons as the Lord demands from His children. However this cannot be achieved on the basis of our conditions, but primarily on the condition of the Lord God. Only on His condition, he can heal and pure us! Dear reader, now I shall reveal you something remarkable! Our Lord Jesus Christ says in Luke 4:27,, And there were many people suffering from dreaded skin-disease who lived in Israel during the time of the prophet Elisha; yet not one of them was healed, but only Naaman the Syrian "
This is remarkable, isn’t it! I mean why did our Lord Jesus Christ give the healing of Naaman as an example? Yes, to clarify something to the listeners and to express something about the unfaithfulness of the people of Israel. But why Naaman and not someone else? Why not someone like Job who suffered much more than Naaman did? Why specific quoting the healing of Naaman? Why did Abraham at all costs want to get a girl for his son Isaac from the Arameans of Paddan? (Genesis 24:1-66) Again I say, why? Why had the people of Israel get the commandment to repeat Deuteronomy 26:5 every time in the presence of the Lord? I mean, is this coincidence? Does this mean something to those blind and silly people inside the Syrian-Aramean community world-wide who call themselves "Assyrians"? Why crying and screaming like "empty barrels" without any content? Why not let the Lord clean them so that their eyes can be opened to see what is the truth and what is the right? Therefore I call all of them,, Wake up, sleeper, and rise from death, and Christ will shine on you" (Ephesians 5:14) And then this… A true Aramean , following the example of general Naaman the Aramean, is at the same time a true Christian. However, I am sorry to say this, but there are today some people, discussing on some Forums, who do call themselves Arameans while their behaviour is not in agreement with the wiliness of the Lord God. They say things which you cannot expect from a Christian. Using these words has nothing do with Christian faith. Yes, I know that such discussions often provoked by those who have lots of contempt for the Holy Book the Bible and for the people of Israel. But they are in this situation spiritually death! And do you think that you will convince such silly persons who only have interest for legends and myths? They will never, never and again never listen to you, because the Bible says,, Don’t try to talk sense to a fool; he can’t appreciate it" (Proverbs 23:9). They in general consider themselves very wise and well-educated, but they do not understand their own words or the matters about which they speak with such confidence" (1 Timothy 1:7). These are the anti-Semtic persons who hate the Bible, because the prophets of the Old Testament describe in detail the total destruction of the Assyrian Empire in 612 B.C. Dear reader, you as a true Christian should never involve in such discussions, since the Holy Book the Bible says.. Keep away from profane and foolish discussions, which only drive people further away from God. Such teaching is like an open sore that eats away the flesh (2 Timothy 2:16).
Please give me more time, because I know exactly how to deal with this subject. If the Lord gives me strength and wisdom, then I will in His name refute all of the nonsense they produce. Belief me dear reader, what they do or say is just empty "air", they have nothing but only nonsense, the base under their foot is just sand!! If you knock on a "empty barrel" then you will discover that it makes a lot of noise and that is exactly the case with these people! They make a lot propaganda, noise and produce nonsense, but the base under their foot is just zero, they hang on myths and legends! So, please be patient, give me more time and pray for me. In stead of wasting your time with foolish discussions, you can better ,, Try to learn what pleases the Lord (Ephesians 4:10). The Lord Has revealed Himself in the Holy Book the Bible, so read the Bible with fasting, praying and worshipping the Lord God! In stead of polluting yourself with such foolish discussions you can better,, Put yourselves to the test and judge yourselves, to find out whether you are living in faith " (2Corinthians 13:5). This is the most important basic matter a Christian should do, namely testing yourself to the Holy Book the Bible to find out if you are still a true Christian. A Christian should keep a way from foolish discussions which only drive people further from God. The prophet Salomon says,, Stay away from foolish people; they have nothing to teach you " (Proverbs 14:7). Exactly, they have nothing to teach you! Try to discover what the Lord pleases and ask Him to reveal Himself to you. Put your life in His Hands and He will teach you, since we read in the Bible,, But as for you, Christ has poured out His Spirit on you. As long as His Spirit remains in you, you do not need anyone to teach you. For His Spirit teaches you about everything, and what He teaches is true, not false. Obey the Spirit's teaching, then, and remain in union with Christ" (1John 2:27). The Spirit’s teaching is revealed in the Holy Book the Bible! So, reading and studying the Holy Book the Bible, you will find out what the Lord God wants from you! We have to undress ourselves "spiritually" in the presence of the Lord in order our sins to become visible, so that Jesus Christ can clean our dirty body with his blood. General Naaman had to undress himself in order the Lord could clean Him by the means of the River the Jordan, in which also our Lord Jesus Christ was baptised! (Matthew 3:13). Both of them, General Naaman the Aramean and Jesus Christ the Aramean were in the same River the Jordan baptised.
Please let we follow the example of general Naaman the Aramean and obey the Lord God unconditionally.
